Grip it tightly with your hand and shake it at various speeds. Should work fine then

make sure you switch the power on
get hold of it give it a good old shake 4 a bit, or hold it steady and get the missus to slap it once or twice
play taps, wrap it up nicely in a white cloth and throw it in the trash

Are you sure you have it turned on properly, maybe it needs a reboot, even old things need a rest.
