I have been having health problems and I went to the doctor. They tested my thyroid and I have hyperthyroidism. My levels are dangerously low. The doc put me on a beta blocker and ordered more blood work and ordered a thyroid scan for next week. Anyway I was just wondering if anyone has been through this and what can I expect? I am pretty nervous.Thyroid problems ..... anyone have any advice.....?
I found out I was hyperthyroid in 1991. Thanks to 2 emergency clinics it went un-noticed until I found a specialist who was so outraged she wrote the clinics letters. I am female, 41 at the time and my symtoms started with a lump inside my throat which took me to emergency. Then my cycle lasted 2 months and my eyes started tearing. I went from 125 lbs to 109. I was unable to focus and confused easy. I too was on beta blockers and after months of meds to get my thyroid under control I had it removed via radio active isotope. Have you ever heard of Graves Disease, goiter and protruding eyes? I am one of the unfortunate ones that got it all. I could go on but your probably more nervous now. Any thing else you want to know, ask me. been there and still there.
The scan ...no worry.Thyroid problems ..... anyone have any advice.....?
I have hyperthyroidism as well (Grave's disease...if there are multiple kinds. I'm not sure). I don't think mine was/is as serious as your is though, so I don't really know what to say. They just noticed it because I had a slight goiter and had my blood tested, now I just have to take a pill every day to regulate it. My mother also had it for a few years but it went into remission, and my doctor believes the same could happen to me. I'm sure you'll be fine, though, because now at least you know about it and can get treated for it. I hope you'll be alright, and I wouldn't worry too much!
