Rental problems in FL, desperate for advice?

Ok We are renting a trailer here, Now, we took this place because we really needed it, as at the time we were homeless. Everyone wanted 1st, last month and deposit but we live paycheck to paycheck and this guy said that he would skip the deposit if we agreed to pay by the week and pay 'a little extra'. WITH the deposit, our rent would have been $700 a month but without it is $225 a week (add that up... 900 a month, for a freakin trailer lol) and my husband only makes like $300 a week! It is KILLING US we can't afford it, we HAVE to move! It wouldn't be so bad if it was only til the deposit was paid but no, it is for as long as we live here.Problem is we can't afford to move because most all of his paycheck goes to this landlord every week.


We don't have a written lease with him, and that was a big issue when he left us here with no fridge for a week 1/2.


So I am wondering if anyone here sees any way at all out of this situation? Either legally or otherwise?Rental problems in FL, desperate for advice?
Contact your local Department of Social Services. They will be able to help you find new housing. You also need to visit the Housing Department and get on the Section 8 list for low income housing. Social Services can help with that, too.

Can you transfer jobs to another state? Or is that even fee-sable... I would suggest moving somewhere more affordable perhaps not in FL. Are you on the HUD list? What about the Department of Human Resources, they typically can provide SOME help. You could if all else fails tell him to stick it where the sun doesn't shine, not pay rent for 1 month so you have the money to move and leave. Since there is no contract he technically has no legal recourse, but I am not a lawyer so I am not positive on that, GOOD LUCK!

Go to www.hud.gov. This is the website for the US Dept. of Housing and Urban Dev. They have an entire section on renting and offer the following toll-free number so you can speak with a housing counseling agency. 800.569.4287.





The website has lists of subsidized apartment complexes for low-income families and links to Public Housing and Housing Choice Vouchers.

Get a job. Other than that, look for a more respectable landlord. Unless you have a written lease where he says he'll provide a working refrigerator, it's not a rental requirement. There are also laws as to how much a landlord can collect as a security deposit. I suggest you do a little research instead of asking strangers to take care of your life for you.
if there is no lease or written agreement ..oh well don't pay the slum lord any more save your money and move out... it can take up to 60 days to evict any one so save your money don't pay move out. also keep pictures, film and or a written journal about the place. so you have solid evidence of what gos on.
Call 211 for Human Services Needs they have over 300,000 information nationwide ask for the number in your State.Also report your landlord to the Consumer Agency and or Landlord Association.Call the towns Health Inspector to inspect your place of living and file a report.If your rent is $700.00 and you already paid the security desposit.He can not ask for more unless he puts in a lease.Also he can not evict you he still needs to follow an eviction process in order to evict you.usually take 3 months.(each state can vary)Look up information in your town courts.Landlord can not enter the primisses if your belonging are there unless you moved or court ordered.So you do have rights..Good Luck..For what you pay you can rent somewhere else.
You need to get a job. No other way out. Work, Work, work. Unless your maimed or lazy, a job is your only option. People are always looking for babysitters. Babysit for crying out loud, Find something. No excuse for not working to support yourself.
I am a Florida landlord-Tenant Attorney. Florida Statutes Section 83.46 provides that where there is no lease and the rent is paid weekly, the tenancy is week to week. Florida Statutes Section 83.57(4) provides that a week to week tenancy may be terminated by giving notice not less than 7 days before the end of a weekly rental period.

I live in Miami. And I know what you are going through. Im paying 1000.00 for a small apt. Have you thought about an efficiency or studio. Get on the section 8 waiting list (it takes forever) and stick it out in an efficiency till then, In your situation you cannot be picky. And get the deposit by not paying your current rent, it takes 60 days to legally get you out of where you are at, like the other one said, keep records but most likely he wont do anything about it because he has no legal contract, your word against his. But have you tried talking to the landlord? Thats the first thing I would do. Just to let him know that you are trying to work with him at least, so whenever you stop paying rent he is not taken by surprise.
This sounds all too familiar! Do you live in Pinnellas county?I whent thruough a similar situation with a slumlord in a rundown trailor park.Although hud and section8 are not easy to get,if you have kids and/or disabilities that prevent you from working it does help with the process of getting assistance.There are other ways too.If the trailor or others in the park are in violation of building codes,you could turn the slumlords in to code enforcement.(I would only suggest doing this if they really are not decent living conditions and the guy is a real ******)If your trailor is condemned, Im pretty sure the state would have to find you some pace to live. Be careful though,cuz if there is no lease,he can evict you in 3 days.As a last resort, move out,stay on a friends couch,find a fixer upper that you can rent cheap for work done on house move off of your friends couch.thats what we did. good luck.
